THE POTENTIAL OF BROWNFIELDS FOR PROVIDING CONSTRUCTION SITES IN URBANIZED AREAS WITH LIMITED LAND RESOURCES

Abstract:This article examines the potential of brownfields to provide developers with construction sites for investment and building projects. Some Bulgarian and international publications on the topic are reviewed. Several key indicators for the housing market in Sofia (Izgrev district) are analyzed. A specific example of a new residential complex built on a brownfield is examined. The study draws conclusions about the potential of brownfields to satisfy growing demand for construction sites and positives/negatives that such projects provide to the market, investors, community, and authorities. Recommendations are made for stimulating investments in similar projects.
