Abstract: The main stages of the development of the regional system in Bulgaria are considered in the elaboration. Attention is paid to the regulations governing regional policy. The main negative trends and problems in the regions of the country have been identified. Based on the indicators from the NSI, an analysis and comparison was made between two years 2010 and 2019. Conclusions and recommendations are substantiated, which could contribute to improving the structure and expansion of settlements and limiting territorial disparities in Bulgaria.
