Abstract: The planning and constructing of successful tourist destinations is a complicated and multidimensional question for which an universal method of activity needs to be developed. That is why the purpose of this article is to offer adequate and real opportunities, borders, principles, methods of planned development of the tourist destinations in a territorial aspect, in a way that they can be viewed as founds of their effective functioning. In that manner the main problematic areas of the science knowledge are defined, a definition of the term tourist destination is given, requirements of its building are drawn-out, guidelines for perfecting the tourist base and trends in innovation and investment activities are defined. Following predetermined recommendations and good practices in building the destinations is not panacea but it gives good ideas and solutions for improving and increasing the competitiveness of tourist destinations.
